New Release: Songs from the Castle

Artist: Pianist, composer, and author Robin Meloy Goldsby

“ . . . A pianist with a beautiful touch . . . just beautiful . . ."

Marian McPartland, NPR Piano Jazz, 2006

A collection of eleven new compositions for solo piano and several lovely standards, Songs from the Castle mingles Robin’s graceful melodies with the artistic and relaxed arrangements that have become her trademark.

Songs from the Castle, Goldsby’s third solo piano recording, pays tribute to the places Robin once dreamed about, and to Schloss Lerbach, the European castle where she currently performs. Robin says: “In between those long-ago fantasies and the sometimes harsh reality of my everyday life as a musician and writer, I’ve built a few castles of my own. These invisible palaces exist in my cherished memories of family and friends, the home I’ve made with my husband and children, and the music I’ve continued to write . . .”

Goldsby, who also penned the acclaimed book Piano Girl, received a starred review from Publishers Weekly. The memoir’s success—which created a new audience for her gentle music—landed Goldsby spots on All Things Considered, The Leonard Lopate Show, and a much talked about one-hour feature on NPR’s Peabody-award winning Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland. “The Lady Plays,” Goldsby’s nod of thanks to Marian, had its premiere performance on the show. A fresh recording of this track graces Songs from the Castle, along with standout tracks like “Magic in the Night” “Lerbach Nocturne,” and “First Snow.” Songs from the Castle appears on the long list for the 2008 Grammy Awards in the categories: Best New Age Album, and Best Instrumental Composition (“Lerbach Nocturne”).
