Piano Girl is the story of a young woman’s accidental career as a cocktail lounge piano player, and the adventures and encounters that follow. Sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, this entertaining memoir provides a rare glimpse into the comedies, tragedies, and mundane miracles witnessed from the business side of the keyboard. Robin Goldsby, a pianist in lounges around the world, tells her musical story by connecting the people she has met with places she has played and pianos she has known. Along the way, she finds the human side, for better or worse, in her audiences: the rich and famous, the down and out, and the everyday people who inhabit the corners of her world. In Piano Girl, anything can happen as people wander through Goldsby’s real-time soundtrack to life.
Robin Meloy Goldsby has played cocktail piano for thirty years. She worked her way through college by playing in local motel lounges and roadhouse bars. Now living in Germany, her musical adventures have taken her to New York City, exclusive island resorts, third world countries, and to the castles in Europe where she currently performs.
